Teck fatality at Elkview Operations

The vehicle collision occurred at Elkview Operations at approximately 10:45am Sunday, November 18th, resulting in the death of an employee.

The tragic accident took the life of 38 year old Stefan James Falzon of Fernie BC.

Stefan is survived by his wife Tessa Knoop, son Gryffin and daughter Haven, his mother Elizabeth Falzon, brother Nick Falzon, sisters-in-law Meagen Knoop (Allan Findlay) and Trinity Knoop, and his in-laws Judith and John Carroll. He was predeceased by his father Eric Guttormson.

Stef was a bright light for his family and brought love and joy to many. They will greatly miss his love and his huge smile every day.

“This is a tragic incident and our most sincere condolences go out to the employee’s loved ones and co- workers,” said Robin Sheremeta, Senior Vice President, Coal. “We are conducting a full investigation of this incident to identify the cause and prevent a reoccurrence.”

The appropriate authorities, including the RCMP and B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources, are investigating the details of the unfortunate incident.

No other employees were injured, and there is no immediate safety or environmental risk.
