Serious Incident at Greenhills Operations
At approximately 12 p.m. Monday, January 28th, there was a serious incident in the Maxam maintenance shop at Tecks Greenhills operation in which Rick Kennedy of Fernie was injured.
Kennedy was airlifted by Stars to Calgary’s Foothills Hospital ICU where he is presently in critical condition suffering from head injuries and a broken arm. Kennedy’s wife Kim commented on Facebook, “No one should ever be hurt in the workplace.”
A go fund me page has been set up to help the family, as their life is at a standstill, bills and payments are not. Money should be the last of their worries.

Elk Valley RCMP reported that the accident occurred when Kennedy was changing a tire on a 66,000 lb. truck, when it appears the tire exploded.
Larry Davey, Vice President Planning and Development, said, “We are focused on providing all the support we can to the affected contract employee, his family and colleagues at this difficult time. No other employees or contractors were injured, and there is no ongoing safety or environmental risk.”
Appropriate authorities have been notified, and an investigation into the incident will be undertaken.
